It’s like a butter knife to crusty sourdough…

Joel A

I love me some bacon and eggs on crusty sourdough bread. I love nothing more than eating bacon and eggs at any cafe. It could be a winning breakfast with delicious coffee, beautifully poached eggs, crispy bacon, soft buttery sourdough which can only be compared to like an additive drug, but… if you make me carve through the crusty sourdough with a butter knife, I’m done. The pincer grip is outrageous, my fingers now have abs, and the vein in my neck looks like a garden hose.

Make my experience easier, please. I can make this breakfast at home. I choose to have an experience and pay good money for it. We are (humans) fundamentally dumb, and generally speaking lazy. I’m going to continue to eat with a butter knife at a cafe. Charge me $2 for a steak knife, or a chainsaw, and I will pay it. Maybe even $3…

Now apply that to your product or service and times it by the number of return customers you have each week. Just think about that for a moment. This doesn’t include growth anticipated from experience improvements. Are you in a pickle with turnover this month? Or are your membership numbers not hitting the mark in January? Think about secondary spend or value add options and execute with speed and agility. Get creative, or in this instance, make things easy and consumers will pay. In fact, 62% of consumers will pay for a simple experience, and 86% will pay more for a greater customer experience.

I’m going to try a few ideas this quarter with little to no cost involved. Let me know if you would like to chat and share thoughts.

BTW. No one is actually going to pay a knife levy. Don’t do it cafe peeps.

Or will they…
